The Lars Berets are part of my Upcycling Project ♻️
They are produced with the little pieces of fabric from the sample bundles (approx. 8 x 5.5 inches). Too small to have a market as offcuts, most of these precious fabrics are periodically turned into waste.This project was inspired by Don De Lillo's book Underworld, centered on waste management. In particular by the character of Klara Sax, a pop artist who recycles rubbish into fine art. Her most significant work is a collection of retired warplanes painted, ornamented and patterned against the backdrop of the Arizona desert. A stunning, powerful view for the main character Nick Shay and his wife, who float over it in a balloon.Lined up on the ground, the thousands bits of fabric I work with would create a geometric mosaic similar to what we see from an airplane, rectangles of various shades.With the Upcycling Project I tried to transform these pieces of fabric, too precious to be disposed of in the waste, into an equally extraordinary vision.
The collection is made exclusively with high quality fabrics, mainly Scabal, Fratelli Tallia di Delfino, Piacenza 1733, Loro Piana, Drapers and Ariston Napoli.
